🕊️Stop Fighting People Who Aren’t Actually Your Enemy

Let’s play a quick game.
Who got on your last nerve this week?
Don’t say their name out loud.
Jesus is listening.
😂
Maybe it was…
The coworker who conveniently forgot to do their part.
The family member who knows exactly which buttons to push.
The driver who apparently believes turn signals are optional.
Or maybe…
It’s you.
Again.
Here’s the thing.
People can absolutely hurt us.
They can lie.
Betray.
Disappoint.
Reject.
Wound.
But Ephesians 6:12 reminds us of something we desperately need to remember before we start mentally writing our “Reasons You’re Wrong” speech.
The person isn’t your enemy.
You’re Looking at the Wrong Battlefield
Can I lovingly ruin your next argument?
Your biggest battle probably isn’t with your spouse.
Or your boss.
Or your neighbor.
Or your difficult teenager.
Or that lady who keeps stealing your parking spot at church.
(Yes, Karen. We see you.)
The Bible says,
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood…”
Notice what Paul doesn’t say.
He doesn’t pretend people never hurt us.
He simply reminds us that the battle goes deeper than the people standing in front of us.
There are unseen battles happening behind visible circumstances. Spiritual warfare is real, and our enemy loves to use fear, division, temptation, discouragement, and deception to pull us away from God’s truth. That’s why Paul tells us to put on the full armor of God rather than simply trying harder in our own strength.
The Enemy Loves Friendly Fire
You know what’s tragically effective?
Getting Christians to fight each other.
Think about it.
If Satan can keep believers distracted by offense…
Consumed by comparison…
Busy winning Facebook arguments…
Focused on being right instead of being Christlike…
He doesn’t have to work nearly as hard anywhere else.
We’re too busy shooting at each other.
Meanwhile…
The real enemy quietly keeps moving.
Not Everything Is Spiritual Warfare…
…But Some Things Definitely Are.
Let’s balance this out.
Not every inconvenience is demonic.
You burned dinner.
That’s not spiritual warfare.
You forgot your password for the eighth time.
Probably not Satan.
You accidentally replied-all to an email.
That’s between you and Jesus.
😂
But…
The sudden temptation to give up on your faith.
The crushing shame that whispers God could never forgive you.
The lies telling you you’re worthless.
The relentless attacks on your identity.
The division that seems to come out of nowhere.
Those are exactly the kinds of unseen battles Scripture tells us to take seriously.
You Can’t Win Without the Armor
Imagine showing up to a battlefield wearing flip-flops and carrying a pool noodle.
Not ideal.
Yet spiritually…
That’s exactly how many of us live.
We want victory…
Without truth.
Peace…
Without prayer.
Confidence…
Without God’s Word.
Protection…
Without spending time with the One who provides it.
Friend…
The armor of God isn’t a cute Sunday school illustration.
It’s survival equipment.
Truth guards your mind.
Faith extinguishes lies.
Righteousness protects your heart.
The Word of God becomes your weapon.
Not your opinions.
Not your feelings.
Not your favorite inspirational quote from Pinterest.
Scripture.
Remember Who Wins
Can I tell you my favorite part about spiritual warfare?
The ending.
Spoiler alert…
Jesus wins.
Actually…
He already did.
The cross wasn’t Plan B.
The resurrection wasn’t a lucky comeback.
Satan doesn’t have the final word.
Jesus does.
That doesn’t mean life won’t be difficult.
It means difficulty doesn’t get the last chapter.
Fight Different
So the next time someone hurts you…
Pause.
Pray before you react.
Ask yourself,
“Am I fighting the person… or am I recognizing the deeper battle?”
Respond with truth.
Lead with grace.
Put on the armor before you pick up the argument.
And remember…
The goal isn’t to win every disagreement.
It’s to remain faithful in the middle of the battle.
Because sometimes the greatest victory isn’t proving you’re right.
It’s refusing to let the enemy steal your peace.
