🕊️When “I’ve Got This” Finally Gives Up

Raise your hand if you’ve ever said…
“I’m fine.”
…while simultaneously surviving on caffeine, dry shampoo, and what can only be described as pure determination.
Girl.
Who are we fooling?
Somewhere along the way, we started believing that being a “strong Christian woman” meant carrying the weight of the world with a smile on our face.
We’ve convinced ourselves that asking for help is weakness.
That slowing down is laziness.
That if we just organize one more planner, color-code one more calendar, or squeeze one more thing into our day, we’ll finally feel like we’ve got it all together.
Spoiler alert…
We won’t.
Because “having it all together” was never the assignment.
The Lie We Keep Believing
Can I lovingly call us out for a second?
We’re really good at trying to be our own savior.
Not intentionally, of course.
But practically?
Absolutely.
We exhaust ourselves trying to fix every problem.
Control every outcome.
Anticipate every worst-case scenario.
Carry everyone else’s burdens.
Hold every relationship together.
And then…
When we’re completely running on fumes…
We whisper,
“God… where are You?”
Meanwhile, He’s probably saying,
“I’ve been here the whole time. You just kept grabbing the steering wheel back.”
Ouch.
I know.
God Never Asked You to Be the Strong One
Psalm 73:26 has become one of those verses I wish I could tape to every mirror, dashboard, laptop, refrigerator, and coffee mug.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Notice what it doesn’t say.
It doesn’t say your heart might fail.
Or your body could fail.
Or you’ll only struggle if your faith isn’t strong enough.
Nope.
It assumes something every one of us eventually learns…
You’re human.
You’ll get tired.
You’ll cry in the shower.
You’ll have days where your faith feels shaky and your emotions feel louder than your prayers.
And God isn’t shocked by any of it.
In fact, He already wrote that verse knowing exactly how many times we’d need to read it.
Can We Stop Worshiping Self-Sufficiency?
Our culture celebrates independence.
“I don’t need anybody.”
“I’ll figure it out.”
“I’ve got this.”
Can I say something that might sting just a little?
“I’ve got this” has probably caused me more stress than almost any other sentence I’ve ever spoken.
Because eventually…
I don’t got this.
And neither do you.
Life has a funny way of reminding us.
Health scares.
Broken relationships.
Unexpected bills.
Grief.
Disappointment.
Anxiety.
The kind of days where brushing your teeth deserves a participation trophy.
Those moments expose something important.
Not that we’re failures…
But that we were never designed to be our own source of strength.
The Breaking Point Isn’t the End
Here’s what I’ve noticed.
God rarely wastes our breaking points.
The places where we feel weakest often become the places where we finally stop pretending.
Where we pray honest prayers instead of polished ones.
“Lord… I’m tired.”
“I don’t know what to do.”
“I can’t fix this.”
Those prayers?
He loves those prayers.
Not because He enjoys seeing us struggle.
But because they’re finally honest.
They’re the moment we stop presenting our résumé…
…and simply present our hearts.
Your Portion Forever
I love that Psalm 73:26 doesn’t just say God gives strength.
It says He is our strength.
That’s a huge difference.
Strength isn’t simply something God hands us before sending us on our way.
He stays.
He walks with us.
He sustains us.
He becomes our portion—the One we return to over and over again when everything else feels uncertain.
That’s comforting because my own strength has an expiration date.
Usually around 2:37 p.m.
Especially if someone asks me one more question before I’ve had coffee.
God’s strength?
Never expires.
Never runs out.
Never says,
“Sorry… capacity reached.”
Memorize It Before You Need It
Here’s something I’ve learned the hard way.
The middle of a crisis is a terrible time to start searching for hope.
That’s why Scripture memory matters.
Not because God is handing out gold stars for memorizing verses.
But because when anxiety shows up at 2 a.m…
When the doctor’s office calls…
When life completely blindsides you…
You need truth that’s already taken root in your heart.
Psalm 73:26 isn’t just a verse to admire.
It’s a lifeline to cling to.
A reminder that when your strength ends…
God’s doesn’t.
Ever.
