Knowing God by Name (Because “Hey You” Doesn’t Quite Cut It)

Let’s be real for a sec. Life? It’s a whole thing sometimes.

Some days you’re thriving. Other days you’re holding your coffee like it’s a lifeline, praying God sends an angel—or at least a nap. And in the middle of it all, we find ourselves wondering: “God… are You here? Do You see what I’m dealing with? Do You even know my name?”

Spoiler alert: He does.
And He’s got a few names of His own. Actually, a lot.

But these aren’t just fancy church words or old-school Bible trivia. These names? They’re lifelines. Truth bombs. Personal promises. They’re how God shows up, introduces Himself, and basically says, “Hey love, I’ve got you.”

Take Hagar—alone, rejected, crying in the desert. And yet, in her lowest moment, she gives God a name: El Roi, “the God who sees me.” Because when no one else saw her, He did.

Or Moses, standing on a mountain during a battle, hands in the air like he just don’t care (except, you know, he really did). When victory came, he named God Jehovah Nissi—“the Lord is my banner.” Translation: “God is my rallying point, my strength, my ‘I-can-do-this-with-Him’ energy.”

And then there’s Gideon, hiding out in a winepress (which is basically the Bible version of stress-eating snacks in the pantry), afraid and unsure. God calls him mighty warrior (because God sees the real you before you do), and Gideon ends up declaring Him Jehovah Shalom—“the Lord is peace.” Because peace isn’t the absence of chaos—it’s the presence of God.

You see the pattern?

God shows up.
He speaks.
He saves.
And He lets us know exactly who He is.

Maybe right now, you need Jehovah Jireh—your Provider.
Or Jehovah Sabaoth—your Warrior who fights battles you don’t even see.
Or Abba—your tender Father who holds your heart when it breaks.

Whatever your season, He’s got a name for that. Because He’s personal like that.

“Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.” – Psalm 9:10
(And no, He’s not starting with you.)

So sis, don’t just settle for knowing about God—get to know Him by name. Because He’s not hiding. He’s revealing. And He’s ready to meet you right where you are—with the exact name you need to cling to right now.
