Faith When You’re Over It but Still Showing Up (Encouragement for Weary Christians)

Let’s just go ahead and say the quiet part out loud.

Sometimes you can love Jesus… and still be completely over it.

Over the struggle.
Over the waiting.
Over the praying for the same thing.
Over the “lessons,” the refining, the character development, the stretching, the trusting, the surrendering — all of it.

You still believe in God.
You still know He’s good.
You still want to follow Him.

But emotionally?
Mentally?
Spiritually?

You’re tired.

Not “I need a nap” tired.
I mean soul-level tired.
The kind where you show up because you love God — but your faith doesn’t exactly feel sparkly or poetic.

And nobody really talks about that season.
Because Christians are supposed to be full of joy, right?

Except… even the faithful grow weary.

Scripture doesn’t hide it.

David said,
“How long, Lord?” (Psalm 13:1)

Paul admitted,
“We were under great pressure… far beyond our ability to endure.” (2 Corinthians 1:8)

Even Jesus said in Gethsemane,
“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow.” (Matthew 26:38)

So if you’re showing up right now out of obedience… not warm fuzzy motivation… you’re not failing.

You’re actually in really good company.

Faith was never about feeling inspired 24/7.

Sometimes faith looks like passion.
Sometimes faith looks like worship.
Sometimes faith looks like deep revelation and spiritual fireworks.

And sometimes?

Faith looks like dragging yourself into God’s presence whispering,
“Lord, I’m here. I’m exhausted. But I’m still Yours.”

That counts.

More than you think.

Because faith isn’t proven in the moments you want to show up.

Faith is proven in the moments you don’t.

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest — if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9

Notice it doesn’t say
“if you don’t feel weary.”

It says
“if you do not give up.”

There’s a difference.

You may feel weary —
and still be faithful.

You may feel numb —
and still be obedient.

You may feel discouraged —
and still be anchored in Christ.

And God sees it all.

Scripture says,
“The Lord sees not as man sees.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

People see the smile.
God sees the effort.

People see attendance.
God sees endurance.

People see “you’re doing great!”
God sees “you’re holding on by grace… and I’m so proud of you.”

Sometimes the holiest thing you do all week is simply not quitting.

You keep praying.
You keep trusting.
You keep showing up — even if your prayers sound more like sighs than sermons.

And let’s be honest: sometimes your faith feels like
“God, I love You. But also… I’m frustrated, confused, and deeply in need of tacos.”

And somehow?
He holds space for that.

He isn’t threatened by your exhaustion.
He isn’t offended by your honesty.
He isn’t rolling His eyes because your faith doesn’t look glamorous this season.

He is near.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.”
— Psalm 34:18

Close.

Not distant.
Not disappointed.
Not impatient.

Close.

And He’s not asking you to perform your faith.
He’s inviting you to rest in Him.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28

Rest — not pressure.

Grace — not hustle.

Presence — not perfection.

So if you’re over it — but still showing up?

That’s surrender.
That’s trust.
That’s love in real life — not theory.

And sometimes that quiet, imperfect, tired obedience is louder in heaven than the loudest worship song.

Because it’s real.

And one day — maybe sooner than you think — your heart will breathe again.

Joy will return.
Hope will rise.
Strength will rebuild.

God has a way of meeting us in the “I’m still here” seasons and turning them into testimonies.

Until then?

Lean.
Rest.
Cry if you need to.
Laugh when you can.
Pray messy prayers.

And know this:

Showing up — even when you’re over it —
is still faith.

And Jesus honors it.

Always.
